Transforming Newark
Newark, New Jersey is not the first place that comes to mind when you think of urban architecture and renewal. The city has plenty to be proud of, though, with a park designed by Frederick Law Olmstead and buildings by modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. With some very prestigious names in its past as well as a number of attractive new structures, Newark has much to offer those who want to live in the city.
A recently transformed office building in the heart of downtown Newark is leading the way for new residents. Eleven80, named for its address at 1180 Raymond Boulevard, is an old office building that now houses 317 luxury apartments. It has amazing Art Deco features throughout as well as a basement bowling alley.
This is one of the first steps in helping to remake the city, which is ideally situated for future growth and change. It is a walkable city with easy transportation options to downtown New York and throughout the region. The Prudential Center arena has recently opened in downtown and is the home of the New Jersey Devils ice hockey team. Nearby is the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and other attractive buildings. Newark has much to offer, and as it is transformed in the coming years it will be a popular residential destination.
