The funding shortfall faced by the UK’s 200 biggest defined benefit pension
schemes stabilised during February, figures showed today.

There is little more than five weeks left until new pension reforms kick in and those who fail to act now could miss out. On 6 April, several changes introduced by the Department for Work and Pensions will come into force aimed at helping women, carers and low earners in retirement, but is it good news for everyone?

Pensioners are being badly treated by the tax authorities, says a report published last week by the Public Accounts Committee. It claims pensioners have been overcharged by as much as £450m in tax, as a result of HMRC’s complex administrative systems, with many ending up on the wrong tax code.

For many Britons, retiring abroad is becoming a reality rather than just a dream. Figures from the Institute of Public Policy Research reveal that the proportion of British pensioners emigrating has increased by more than a quarter since 2000. But, once settled abroad, British retirees have an important question to answer: should they move their pension funds overseas or leave them in the UK?
